The High-Pressure Internal Thread Connector for Manufacturing Leak Testing
The FasMate FN is FasTest’s high-pressure internal thread connector—designed to seal inside threaded bores up to 5,000 psi (345 bar) for leak testing, pressure decay testing, proof testing, and fluid transfer applications. The FasMate FN inserts into the threaded bore, expands a split collet to grip the threads, and engages an internal seal—all in a single quick motion. No wrenching into the threads, no sealant, no thread tape, and no risk of cross-threading or galling the bore.
The FasMate FN is one of FasTest’s most versatile connectors. It covers five major thread standards—NPT, BSPT, BSPP (G), metric, and O-ring boss/flare ports—in sizes from the smallest sensor bores through the recently expanded range up to 1½” NPT. Three actuation methods are available: lever handle for manual bench testing, thumb valve for one-handed operation in tight spaces, and pneumatic actuation for automated and semi-automated test stations. The FasMate FN is also available with ICON™ intelligent connection technology for digital seal verification and PLC integration.
For automotive engine testing, fluid power proof testing, aerospace component testing, and any application where high-pressure internal bore sealing is required, the FasMate FN eliminates the threaded connection entirely—replacing a slow, injury-prone, thread-damaging process with a fast, safe, and repeatable connection that protects both the operator and the part.
Split Collet Design: Grip, Seal, and Lock Without Threading
The FasMate FN’s connection mechanism is fundamentally different from a traditional threaded fitting. Here’s how it works:
-
Insert: The operator inserts the FasMate FN nose into the threaded bore. The tapered nose guides the connector into the port with minimal effort.
-
Grip: Actuating the lever, thumb valve, or pneumatic trigger expands the split collet outward against the bore threads. The collet grips the threads securely without cutting, galling, or deforming them.
-
Seal: As the collet engages, an internal seal is pressed against the bore wall to create a leak-tight connection. The seal is pressure-assisted—as test pressure increases, the seal force increases proportionally.
-
Lock: Under pressure, the FasMate FN is positively locked in the bore. The connector cannot be accidentally removed while the system is pressurized, protecting operators from unexpected high-pressure release.
-
Release: After depressurizing, the operator releases the actuation mechanism. The collet retracts, the seal disengages, and the FasMate FN lifts cleanly out of the bore—leaving the threads undamaged.
This entire sequence takes seconds. Compare that to the multiple turns of a wrench, application of thread tape, verification of proper engagement, and risk of cross-threading that every traditional threaded connection requires.
FasMate FN Thread Standard Compatibility
| Thread Standard | Detail |
|---|---|
| NPT (National Pipe Thread) | Tapered pipe threads per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1. The most common internal thread standard in North American manufacturing. FasMate FN available in sizes from small sensor ports through 1½” NPT. |
| BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper) | Tapered pipe threads per ISO 7/1 (R/Rc). Common in European, Asian, and international manufacturing. The FasMate FN seals to BSPT bores without the cross-threading risk of traditional tapered thread connections. |
| BSPP / G (British Standard Pipe Parallel) | Parallel pipe threads per ISO 228-1. O-ring or washer-sealed connections common in European hydraulic and pneumatic applications. FasMate FN provides a reliable internal seal without the separate O-ring or washer. |
| Metric Internal Threads | Metric thread bores per ISO 261/ISO 724. Common on European, Asian, and globally-specified components. FasMate FN covers standard metric sizes for engine, hydraulic, and industrial port testing. |
| O-Ring Boss / Flare Ports | SAE J1926 (O-ring boss) and SAE J514 (flare) port geometries. Common on North American hydraulic components. The FasMate FN seals internally without engaging the O-ring boss seat, preserving the port for production use. |
Where the FasMate FN Is Used
Automotive Engine & Powertrain Testing
The FasMate FN is one of the most frequently used connectors in FasTest Engine Packages. It seals to oil gallery ports, sensor bores, fuel system test points, and other internal threaded connections on engine blocks, cylinder heads, transmission cases, and powertrain housings. The split collet design is especially valuable on precision-machined engine ports where thread damage from testing would scrap the casting.
Fluid Power Component Testing
Hydraulic manifolds, valve bodies, pump housings, and cylinder ports often feature internal threaded bores that must be sealed for proof testing at pressures up to and beyond 5,000 psi. The FasMate FN’s pressure-assisted sealing makes it the preferred high-pressure connector for fluid power manufacturing, replacing the threaded plugs and fittings that slow down hydraulic test operations and damage ports.
Aerospace Component Testing
Aerospace hydraulic and fuel system components require leak testing and proof testing at high pressures with zero thread damage to AN, MS, and aerospace-grade fittings. The FasMate FN’s non-damaging split collet grip and pressure-assisted seal deliver the safe, repeatable connections aerospace testing demands.
Compressed Gas Cylinder & Valve Testing
The FasMate FN seals to internal threaded ports on pressure vessels, cylinder valves, and gas system manifolds for proof testing and leak testing. The 5,000 psi rating covers the test pressures required for most compressed gas cylinder and component verification.
General Manufacturing
Any manufacturing application with internal threaded bores that require fast, repeatable, non-damaging test connections benefits from the FasMate FN—including appliance compressor ports, HVAC-R system components, industrial valve testing, and castings with threaded test points.
FasMate FN vs. Traditional Threaded Connections

|---|---|---|
| Connection Time | 15–45+ seconds (multiple wrench turns) | 2–5 seconds (insert, actuate) |
| Thread Damage | Cross-threading, galling, overtorque common | Zero thread contact — split collet grips without rotating |
| Sealant Required | Thread tape or pipe dope on tapered threads | None — internal seal, no foreign material |
| Pressure Rating | Limited by thread engagement depth and sealant integrity | 5,000 psi (345 bar) with pressure-assisted sealing |
| Seal Confirmation | None — feel-based | ICON™ with SURE SEAL™ available |
| Operator Strain | Repetitive wrenching, often in tight spaces | One-handed lever, thumb valve, or pneumatic actuation |
| Repeatability | Varies by operator technique and thread condition | Consistent split collet engagement every cycle |
| Automation | Difficult — requires robotic torquing | Pneumatic actuation with ICON™ PLC integration |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the FasMate FN?
A: The FasMate FN is FasTest’s high-pressure internal thread connector for sealing inside threaded bores up to 5,000 psi (345 bar). It uses a split collet design to grip the threads without damaging them and an internal pressure-assisted seal for leak-tight connections. The FasMate FN is available for NPT, BSPT, BSPP, metric, and O-ring boss/flare port thread standards with lever, thumb valve, and pneumatic actuation options.
Q: What thread standards does the FasMate FN support?
A: The FasMate FN covers five major thread standards: NPT (National Pipe Thread), BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper), BSPP/G (British Standard Pipe Parallel), metric internal threads, and SAE O-ring boss/flare ports. This broad coverage makes the FasMate FN suitable for virtually any internal threaded bore in manufacturing.
Q: What is the maximum pressure rating?
A: The FasMate FN is rated for vacuum to 5,000 psi (345 bar). The seal is pressure-assisted, meaning seal force increases proportionally as test pressure rises—the connection is strongest at its highest rated pressure.
Q: How does the split collet work?
A: The FasMate FN’s split collet expands outward against the bore threads when the operator actuates the lever, thumb valve, or pneumatic trigger. The collet grips the threads securely without rotating against them, which means no cross-threading, no galling, and no thread damage—even over thousands of connection cycles.
Q: What actuation methods are available?
A: The FasMate FN is available in three actuation configurations: lever handle for manual bench testing, thumb valve for one-handed operation in tight spaces, and pneumatic actuation for automated and semi-automated test stations.
Q: Is the FasMate FN available with ICON™?
A: Yes, for select models. ICON™-equipped FasMate FN connectors provide SURE SEAL™ digital seal verification, LED feedback, safety interlock signals, and real-time data output for PLC-integrated automated test stations.
Q: What sizes is the FasMate FN available in?
A: The FasMate FN is available in a wide range of sizes covering small sensor port bores through the recently expanded large sizes up to 1½” NPT. All major thread types are available across the size range. Use the product configurator on this page or contact FasTest for the exact sizes available for your thread standard.
Q: Does the FasMate FN damage the threaded bore?
A: No. The split collet grips the threads by expanding outward—it does not rotate against the threads. This eliminates the cross-threading, galling, and overtorque damage that traditional threaded test connections cause. The bore threads remain undamaged after thousands of FasMate FN connection cycles.
Q: What industries use the FasMate FN?
A: The FasMate FN is used in automotive and EV engine/powertrain testing, fluid power component proof testing, aerospace component testing, compressed gas cylinder and valve testing, HVAC-R system testing, appliance manufacturing, and general manufacturing—any application with internal threaded bores requiring high-pressure leak testing or proof testing.
Q: How does the FasMate FN compare to traditional threaded plugs?
A: The FasMate FN connects in seconds versus 15–45+ seconds for threaded plugs, causes zero thread damage (versus cross-threading and galling risk), requires no sealant (versus thread tape or pipe dope), and provides consistent pressure-assisted sealing to 5,000 psi. ICON™ availability adds digital seal verification and automation integration that threaded plugs cannot provide.
Q: Where can I get replacement seals and maintenance parts?
A: Replacement seal kits, collet assemblies, and maintenance parts for the FasMate FN are available directly from FasTest. Visit the Maintenance Parts section of our website or contact FasTest for the correct parts for your FasMate FN configuration.
